Digital Marketing 101: The Three Stages of Video Production

Shooting a video might seem easy at first. If all you want to do is film something funny with your friends, you can do that easily by pulling out your phone and hitting “Record.”

However, if your purpose is much more significant than that, the process will naturally become more involved or complicated. If you want to take video production seriously, you will have to take more things into account. Here are the three stages of video production:

Pre-production

Before you even turn a camera on, you need to come up with a plan. Whatever ideas that you have in your head need to be jotted down on a piece of paper. Having an organized plan before filming will give you a better idea of what you should focus on. It will become much easier to work toward your goals if you know what they are.

When everything is in black and white, things will become more apparent to you and your team. If you are struggling to identify your target market and the message of your video, or if you can’t fix the budget for your shoot, try to write everything down. The pre-production stage is the part where you have to iron out any kinks.

This is why you cannot skip this part of the video production process. The longer you plan and the more effort you put into it, the better your video will be. During this stage, you should consider all of the small elements that will be used during filming. Some of these elements include the colour of the background screen, the style of the presenter’s makeup, your props, etc.

You also need to have a precise script or storyboard for your video. If you don’t have one, complications may arise during filming. Your script or storyboard will serve as a guide for you and your crew. It will also help the editing team to understand the meaning of the video, which in turn will help them do their jobs properly.

Once your entire team is on the same page, they will be able to set up everything accordingly. No matter what they’re in charge of, they will all depend on your script or storyboard.

Filming

During filming, one thing you can never forget is the safety of your team. No matter how focused you are on your own tasks, you need to make sure the set is safe for everyone. All wires on the floor need to be taped or covered.

You have no idea how many people have ended up in the hospital after tripped over such wires. The lights should be weighted down to prevent them from falling over. You need to make sure that your team is careful with your equipment. All of this may be difficult to do when you are on location, but it is important to take care of your equipment and crew.

Editing

When the filming process is over, you need to download all of the raw footage to your central storage. This is to prevent you from losing the files. After you copy everything, you may move on to the editing stage. You don’t have to worry much about this process. Just make sure that the computer your editing team is using is not slow. Let them do their jobs so you can just enjoy the final product.
